Southeast Michigan Community College Consortium

Advanced Manufacturing and Alternative Energy Education and Training

Nine Community Colleges in SE Michigan - from Ann Arbor to Port Huron, from Monroe to Flint – formed a collaboration to educate and train workers in skills required to succeed in Michigan’s high demand occupations of Advanced Manufacturing and Alternative Energy.

These Southeast Michigan community college’s, Henry Ford, Macomb, Monroe, Mott, Oakland, Schoolcraft, St. Clair, Washtenaw, and Wayne County, help drive technical innovative education for the skilled workforce in Michigan and help move business & industry to higher performance levels through workforce development.

The collaboration was created to bridge the gap between higher education and the jobs of the new economy, using funding from a Department of Labor Community-Based Job Training Grant through the development of regional centers of expertise in specific training areas including research and design technicians, multi-skilled technicians, and advanced manufacturing technicians, utilizing learning models and business processes that speak to innovation.

These colleges identify needs, share resources and knowledge, and develop mutual training solutions to support economic development by strengthening the region’s workforce through education and training.
